During a baseball game on February 7th between the Dyersburg State Community College Eagles and the Rend Lake College Warriors, two players shared a moment that reached back to the 2022 Colt League World Series, and across continents.
Rend Lake’s Jack Harre found himself standing at third base when Dyersburg State third baseman Darrion Richards called out to him. With a noticeable accent, Richards greeted Harre, sparking a moment of recognition. The two quickly realized they had faced each other years earlier, when Richards, representing Paderborn, Germany, and Harre, representing Marion, Illinois, competed in the Colt World Series.
The reunion took place during a three-game weekend series hosted by Dyersburg State on February 7–8. Rend Lake took the first two contests with 16–4 and 12–6 victories, while Dyersburg State answered with a narrow 2–1 win in the finale.
Though separated by miles and time zones since their Colt World Series meeting, Harre and Richards’ encounter highlights the lasting bonds created through international competition, and just how small the baseball community can be.
